Dear Parents, Guardians and Caregivers,

By now I’m sure you are aware that Niverville schools have been directed to enter into the restricted orange level of the pandemic response system (PRS).  While we have been very diligent in working within our cohorts to maintain at least one metre of physical distancing, schools have been advised that the distance should be increased to two metres where possible. Therefore, in consultation with the Superintendent’s Office, we have created the following plan:

  • Grade 5 & 6 – An additional learning space and group will be added to each of our four cohorts in Grades 5 & 6 by reducing the number of students in existing homerooms using a pull-out model.  Students will go to an alternate learning space in the school with an additional teacher but still be connected to their homeroom teacher.
  • Grade 7 & 8 – Homerooms will be split into two equal groups and will attend on alternate days of the cycle, which will be classified as track A and B.  Groups will be created based on the best possible learning environment for our students.  Parents and students will be notified as to which days of the cycle they will be attending.  More details will follow in the coming days.
  • In order to create teaching support for our additional classes, we have paused our Human Ecology and Tech Ed programs and have reassigned our itinerant teachers.

The aforementioned plan will take effect on Monday, November 2nd, 2020 and is intended to be a temporary arrangement until public health has deemed it appropriate to lift the restricted orange level designation.

We are living in times that are creating significant hardships for many of us.  These measures are intended to keep us all safe.  We will do our best to ensure a seamless transition into the new model of learning for you child.  We also ask that you exercise grace and compassion towards our teachers as they are asked to be flexible and adjust to yet another change in their delivery of the curriculum.

For those who have indicated via survey that they are interested in the remote learning option, please contact your child’s teacher to reaffirm your interest.  If you no longer wish to pursue that option, please also let us know.

The staff of NMS are committed to caring for your children and we will continue to do so during these difficult times.  If there are any questions we haven’t addressed, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher, the school office, or school administration directly.  As always, we thank you for your continued support.  We will get through this together.

Warm regards,

Craig Cumming
