September is upon us and a return to school is just around the corner. Everyone at Niverville Middle School is so excited to welcome students back this fall! We once again find ourselves beginning a school year during a pandemic, so although many aspects of school will be more normal this year NMS and Hanover School Division will continue to follow the guidance of Public Health and Manitoba Education. You can see the most up to date documents on the HSD website under the COVID-19 Guidance tab (https://hsd.ca/covid19/).

We are looking forward to welcoming students and their families into the school for a Meet the Teacher evening on Tuesday September 7th from 4:00-6:00pm. Details for booking an appointment have been sent to families in an email and bookings can be made in the Parent Portal. If you require assistance in booking your appointment please contact the school office.

Students in grades 5 & 6 will be cohorted again this year, while students in grades 7 & 8 will not. Grade 5 and 6 students will have separate recesses again this year, this will be for morning, lunch and afternoon recess.

Bells will ring at 8:55am and 1:00pm welcoming students into the building for classes. We ask that non-bus students arrive as close to 8:55am as possible. Upon arrival, all students should wait near their class’s designated entrance. Students are dismissed for the day at 3:40pm.

We will once again have assigned entrances for all of our classes. Classes in the main school building will be assigned a door near their classroom, while those in the portable classrooms can access their space directly. All exterior doors will have a map posted on them to assist in locating the correct entrance. Anyone entering the school will be required to wear a mask. Hand hygiene remains important at this time, therefore hand sanitizer will be available at entrances and in each classroom.

It remains important that parents and guardians screen their child(ren) for COVID-19 symptoms before sending them to school each day. A self-screening tool is available at https://sharedhealthmb.ca/covid19/screening-tool/ .

We will be holding grade/cohort assemblies during the first week of classes to welcome students back to NMS. We will be going over guidelines and expectations for the school year, and answering student questions at that time. We can’t wait to connect with our students in this way again!

Everyone on staff at NMS is looking forward to this new school year and having all our students back in our building once again! See you soon!
