Dear Parents/Caregivers,

We are now entering into week five of Learning at Home. Families, schools, school divisions, educational partners, and Manitoba Education are working together to ensure learning continues at home. Indeed, we are all in this together.

The indefinite suspension of classroom learning has brought forth new challenges for students and parents/caregivers alike, and this has led to many questions. To ensure easy access to answers, we have created a Frequently Asked Questions page on our Learning at Home website. The FAQ page will provide answers to questions regarding learning expectations, student assessment, graduation, mental health support, and more. Two additional website resources that may be of assistance to you are the Supplemental Learning Resources list and the recently added page, Learning at Home – Factors for Success.

As we near the end of April, and with no immediate plans for schools to reopen, there has been media speculation on when this suspension period may end. Recent news reports have referenced the possibility of schools not reopening until the next school year. Although the Premier has indicated that there are no plans in place to open schools before September, at present, there has been no official directive stating a change or modification to our current status. Classes may still resume before the end of the school year, but only if it is safe to do so, as determined by the Chief Provincial Public Health Officer.

Lastly, our recent Thought Exchange wrapped up this past Friday. Thank you to all who participated and provided feedback regarding the first few weeks of Learning at Home. Over 600 participants shared 584 thoughts, the results of which will help us better understand the needs of our school communities during this period of suspended classroom learning, and guide our efforts in providing learning support to students and parents/caregivers. You can view the full results by visiting the Thoughtexchange Results page.

On behalf of the HSD Board of Trustees and our entire staff, thank you for your commitment to continued student learning. We appreciate your patience, support, and willingness to facilitate learning in the spaces of your home. Without your help, this would not be possible.

With Gratitude,

Randy Dueck, Superintendent-CEO
Hanover School Division
